Eight years of reforms has Wisconsin on track

Madison, WI – Senator Duey Stroebel (R-Cedarburg) released the following statement following Governor Evers’ State of the State Address:

While Governor Evers was short on details tonight, I heard enough to know that my colleagues and I must be ready to offer alternatives to the Governor’s vision for higher taxes and a larger state bureaucracy.

I understand why the Governor might be incline to ignore or minimize the successes of the last eight years, they are a direct and compelling rebuke of his plans to grow state government.

Wisconsin’s families and businesses benefited enormously from the reforms that were enacted by Governor Walker and the Republican Legislature the last eight years. Wisconsin’s unemployment rate did not fall to 3% by accident. Wages in Wisconsin didn’t rise nearly 6% year over year in 2018 by accident. The budget surplus and rainy day fund balance weren’t created by accident. These changes in Wisconsin’s path were the result of a strong business climate and responsible government built by tax cuts and common-sense reforms. Those victories can quickly be reversed if we once again allow state government to grow unchecked. The expansion of government always comes at a cost to Wisconsin families and businesses.

I look forward to working on behalf of my constituents to ensure that Wisconsin continues on the path of prosperity and success.
