Madison – Elected officials across the country have signed onto an amicus brief opposing the Trump Administration’s decision to include a citizenship question on the 2020 Census. Signatories of the brief include elected officials of both parties from Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida Georgia, Illinois, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. After signing on to the brief, Rep. Anderson released the following statement:
“The Trump Administration’s decision to include a citizenship question on the census does nothing but spark fear and disruption, especially for our minority communities. This attempt by the Trump Administration to distort our representational process is unconstitutional, unethical and un-American. It must be stopped.”
Rep. Anderson continued, “The census is one of the most important tools for representation in our democracy. Accurately counting the population, and that includes our immigrant population, is vital to drawing our legislative districts, planning future development projects, and ensuring that everyone is equally represented in America. I’m proud to join my colleagues in this amicus brief challenging the Trump Administration as we fight to preserve the democratic values enshrined in our Constitution.”
