Madison – Rep. Terry Katsma (R-Oostburg) made the following statement regarding Governor Evers’ veto of Assembly Bill 4, the Middle Class Income Tax Cut:
“I am disappointed that the governor decided to veto legislation that puts money back in the pockets of almost two million middle class families, while protecting Wisconsin businesses and farmers.
“By vetoing this bill, Governor Evers is actively choosing not to work with Republicans to fulfill his own campaign promise of a middle class tax cut. Instead, the governor is proposing a tax shift by raising taxes on small businesses and manufacturers through a cap on the Manufacturing and Agriculture Tax Credit, a proposal he knows Assembly Republicans will not support.”
The proposed tax reductions are targeted to individuals making less than $100,000 and families earning $150,000 or less. A median-income family, filing jointly, would see a $310 reduction in net taxes according to nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau projections.
