Rep. Michael Schraa
January 17, 2019 (608) 267-7990
(Madison, WI) Representative Michael Schraa (R-Oshkosh) and his Republican
colleagues announce plans for a middle class tax cut of over half a billion dollars.
“Over the last 8 years, Republicans have turned the previous administration’s deficit
of $3,600,000,000 into a surplus of $588,500,000.
“Think about that for a minute. 8 years ago when Republicans were elected to lead,
the state of Wisconsin was $3.6 billion dollars in the red; now we’re almost $600
million dollars ahead. That’s an improvement of well over 4 billion dollars. Voters
didn’t elect us expecting a return to the wasteful spending and high taxes that hurt
our economy and the people of Wisconsin so badly.
“We’ve shown that the best way to grow the economy is to reduce taxes, so it only makes sense to use the surplus—the people’s money—for the people. The hard-working people of Wisconsin deserve to keep more cash in their wallets, to save or spend as they see fit.
“I sat down with Governor Evers yesterday, and he seemed to be open to bipartisanship. When we combine our promise not to raise taxes with his promise for middle class tax cuts, it’s a win for everyone.”
