MADISON – The Legislative Fiscal Bureau released details on how Governor Evers intends to prioritize affordable higher education opportunities for illegal immigrants over Wisconsin’s veterans. Senator Feyen released the following statement in response to Gov. Evers’ proposal:
“Gov. Evers and his team are continuously proving that this budget proposal caters to radical, left-wing ideas instead of Wisconsin citizens. It’s unacceptable that Gov. Evers is prioritizing illegal immigrants over our veterans. In his budget Gov. Evers has proposed that illegal immigrants receive in-state tuition at UW and WTCS schools after three years of residency. Veterans have to wait five years to receive the same benefit. The men and women who put their lives on the line for our country deserve better. Wisconsin has a proud tradition of being a state that strongly supports veterans and provides a multitude of services and benefits to them. We should continue to build on this tradition, not degrade our veterans to a status lower than illegal immigrants. This is an embarrassing example of how out of touch Gov. Evers is with Wisconsinites.”
