Madison, WI- Senator André Jacque issued the following statement regarding this afternoon’s overwhelming bi-partisan State Assembly passage of the Pre-Existing Condition Guaranteed Coverage Act, authored by Sen. Jacque and Rep. Kevin Petersen, by a 76-19 vote:

“I’m very pleased with the strong bi-partisan support for our common-sense legislation from introduction, through last week’s committee vote, and on the Assembly floor today.
This bill is about protecting people’s access to coverage regardless of whatever medical challenges they may have already faced. This is an opportunity for us to come together, take a deep breath, and like a number of things in health care, work together across the aisle the way our constituents expect without sacrificing principles. I am appreciative of my Assembly colleagues for their bi-partisan support today.

I am proud of the very strong protections in my bill and I’m glad that Governor Evers has acknowledged that they are a step in the right direction, which is why I am confident that he will ultimately sign these strong protections into law when the Pre-Existing Conditions Guaranteed Coverage Act reaches his desk.”

Sen. André Jacque represents Northeast Wisconsin’s First Senate District, consisting of Door and Kewaunee Counties and portions of Brown, Calumet, Manitowoc, and Outagamie counties.
