MADISON – Senator Jeff Smith (D-Brunswick) and Representative Jodi Emerson (D-Eau Claire) issued the following joint statement regarding Governor Tony Evers’ announcement to include $109 million for phase one of reconstructing UW-Eau Claire’s Science Hall.

Senator Jeff Smith shared the following comments:

“The inclusion of Mayo Clinic’s partnership shines a spotlight on our world-class science department at UW-Eau Claire – the economic impacts of this project will reach beyond our Chippewa Valley region.

“This is the kind of opportunity that comes once in a lifetime, and we applaud Governor Evers’ decision to include this project in his capital budget requests. I look forward to working with my Republican and Democratic colleagues in the Senate as we work through the budget process.”

Representative Jodi Emerson shared the following comments:

“UWEC has incredible students, faculty and staff and a tradition of excellence. With the new science hall proposal, our facilities will now be able to meet the needs and help prepare students for the careers of tomorrow without the burden of facilities that were built in a time when a computer took up an entire room.

Our community deserves to have students trained in the latest technologies and we can’t continue to do that with an outdated building.

“I applaud Gov. Evers for including UWEC in the capital budget and look forward to working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to make this proposal a reality.”
