Madison – Today, Senator Dan Feyen (R-Fond du Lac), Senator Testin (R-Stevens Point), Representative Schraa (R-Oshkosh), and Representative Scott Krug (R-Nekoosa) circulated legislation to ensure that 2017 Wisconsin Act 184 applies to the placement of all sexually violent persons (SVPs) without a finalized supervised release plan. Senator Feyen released the following statement regarding the proposal:

“Our rural communities are disproportionately bearing the burden of housing SVPs under supervised release. With the enactment of 2017 WI Act 184, the legislature sought to localize the placement of all SVPs without approved release plans. Unfortunately, some judges have misinterpreted the legislative intent of 2017 WI Act 184 and have chosen to place SVPs outside of their home county. This practice needs to end.

This bill will clarify the legislative intent of 2017 WI Act 184 and ensure that all SVPs without approved release plans are placed in their home counties.”
