WASHINGTON, DC – On Monday, July 15, 2019, U.S. Representative Mark Pocan (WI-02) will travel to Miami, Florida, to conduct an oversight visit of the Homestead Influx Facility for unaccompanied children. The facility is temporarily charged by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) of the Department of Health and Human Services with caring for unaccompanied immigrant children in U.S. custody until they can be reunified with an approved family member or friend pending immigration court proceedings.
Recent media reports have raised serious concerns about the quality of care being administered to children in the custody of the U.S. government. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, which funds and oversees this and other similar facilities, Rep. Pocan will personally examine the conditions in which children are being held at the Homestead Influx Facility.
