Madison…  Rep. Mark Born (R-Beaver Dam) focuses on the budget in the Weekly Radio Address for Wisconsin State Republicans.

Hi, I’m State Representative Mark Born.

This is the time of year that we celebrate the milestones of our students – many of which are graduating from high school or college.  It’s also the point in the budget process here at the Capitol where we are working together to ensure our students have access to the resources they need to succeed.

Our budget plan builds on our historic investments in K-12 education by investing an additional 500 million dollars in schools so that every child, regardless of zip code, can get the world class education that Wisconsin is known for.

Our investment includes the largest-ever increase for special education, and doubles the current funding for mental health services.  We are also investing more in high-cost transportation to help rural districts.

And for those graduating seniors, you will be glad to know that we, once again, are freezing tuition at UW schools, for the fourth budget in a row.  For a typical student – This is a savings of about $6,000 over four years, compared to previous tuition hikes.

We are also increasing our investment for the UW system, by 93 million dollars, and our technical college system by 25 million dollars.

The great news is – we are making these investments while holding the line on taxes. This is possible because over the past eight years, we’ve made smart fiscal decisions. We will continue to fight for a right-sized, responsible government, with a focus on making Wisconsin an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.
