Opportunities Now is an analysis of five important conservation issues for Wisconsin: agricultural sources of water pollution, groundwater withdrawals, land and water legacy (public lands), chronic wasting disease in deer, and climate change.
Wisconsin’s Green Fire selected these issues based on their importance for Wisconsin’s citizens, the relative threats associated with the issue, and the opportunity for state government to take effective action in the next few years. For each issue the report includes background on science and policy, an assessment of state agency actions, and recommendations to address key needs through public policy, budget, and state agency initiatives.
Wisconsin’s Green Fire President Terry Daulton stated “Our members are ready to support continued conversations around these issues and provide useful information to support effective decision making.”
WGF is a statewide membership organization promoting science-based management of natural resources. WGF members include career natural resource professionals and research scientists from disciplines including air quality, water quality, wetlands, forestry, wildlife, fisheries, and education.
