WAUSAU — Residents of the greater Wausau area are invited to celebrate the life and legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. with live entertainment, a keynote speaker and an announcement of this year’s Social Justice Award winner.

The celebration will take place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 21, inside the Great Hall of the historic Grand Theater in downtown Wausau. The annual event is part of a broader initiative to ensure Wausau is a welcoming place to all.

“As a young man growing up I never had a dream of what I could be in this world. But seeing this event take shape has been an awesome and beautiful reality,” said Christopher Norfleet of People For the Power of Love, a sponsoring organization.

This year’s theme is “How Long? Not Long! His Dream: Our Destiny”

The event is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 each and may be purchased at the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service (WIPPS), located at the UW Center for Civic Engagement, 625 Stewart Avenue, Wausau.

Sponsors include People For the Power of Love, The Women’s Community Inc. and North Central Area Congregations Organized to Make an Impact (NAOMI). For more information, contact Naomi4Justice@yahoo.com or call 715-301-8385.
