MADISON – The following statement can be attributed to Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation President Jim Holte:

“Wisconsin Farm Bureau is thankful to hear that an agreement with Canada and Mexico to remove the steel and aluminum tariffs has been reached. The two neighboring countries will be removing their retaliatory tariffs on Sunday, May 19.

Our organization is hopeful that this will eliminate a major barrier of getting the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement passed through Congress.

Wisconsin’s agricultural economy greatly benefits from trade and the relationships with Canada and Mexico. Having the retaliatory tariffs eliminated on our products, especially cheeses, is a step in the right direction but passing the USMCA is what is needed next.

WFBF will continue to engage in trade discussions and advocate to build trade relationships and expand new markets for our farmers in other countries.”
