MILWAUKEE – Curtis L. Schmitt Jr., Membership Director of the Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce, was appointed by Governor Tony Evers to the Board of Veterans Affairs, representing the 1st Congressional District. Curtis will serve as Vice Chair after a vote by the board this month.
“It’s a true honor to serve as Vice Chair to the Board of Veterans Affairs,” said Curtis Schmitt. “I firmly believe that supporting our veteran community is imperative to the success of their transition. After multiple combat tours, being able to effectively advocate for the veteran and military family communities, while also advising the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Mary Kolar, is an honor and a distinct privilege. I believe that we can really move the needle on helping reduce veteran suicide, draw positive attention to what the state is doing for veterans and military families, and help veterans succeed in life and business by adopting legislation that makes sense.”
Curtis Schmitt was a combat medic and served in Afghanistan and Iraq with the Army’s 10th Mountain Division. He is continuing his service to our nation by assisting as many veterans and service members as he can through his work at the Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce.
“We are incredibly proud of Curtis and know he will serve the people of Wisconsin well,” said Saul Newton, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce. “Curtis’ passion for the veteran community and military families will ensure he does a great job as he continues to work to make Wisconsin a leader in veteran affairs.”
