MADISON — Supreme Court candidate and former Scott Walker lawyer Brian Hagedorn, who yesterday was admonished for blog posts likening homosexuality to bestiality, has kicked off Black History Month with a note to supporters commending “Great Americans like Frederick Douglas, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Rosa Parks.” Just years earlier, however, Hagedorn called the NAACP, a century-old organization that has advocated for racial equality and civil rights a “disgrace to America” that should be “repudiated” by those seeking racial equality.

“The NAACP is a widely respected organization that has been at the forefront of some of our nation’s most important fights for equality,” said David Crowley, Chair of Wisconsin’s Legislative Black Caucus and NAACP member. “For Judge Hagedorn to claim they are ‘a disgrace’ shows extreme partisanship and a blatant disregard for the struggles the Black community and communities of color have and continue to face.”

“The real disgrace here is the hostile takeover of our judicial system by radical partisans like this former lawyer for Scott Walker,” added Representative David Bowen, Vice Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. “Our courts desperately need to be led by independent and impartial judges. How can we possibly trust Brian Hagedorn when he holds such extreme beliefs? The fact that he refuses to even apologize for these reckless remarks shows just how unfit he is for the bench.”
