Republicans Propose Pre-Existing Health Care Coverage, Evers Claims to Support Protections
[Madison, WI] – Later today, Governor Tony Evers is scheduled to meet with Republican legislative leaders to discuss opportunities to move forward on a number of policy priorities outlined by Assembly Republicans last week. The Assembly Committee on Health is also scheduled to hold a public hearing this afternoon on A.B. 1 – the GOP-sponsored legislation designed to guarantee access to health insurance statewide for people with pre-existing medical conditions. Evers has previously been skeptical on the proposal, claiming “no matter what they pass, it’s still going to be insufficient.” With Evers having pledged to work with Republicans to find “common ground” this begs the question, would Governor Tony Evers sign A.B. 1? The Republican Party of Wisconsin released the following statement from Executive Director Mark Morgan.
“If Tony Evers is serious about finding common ground he needs to answer whether or not he would sign A.B. 1 into law. Evers has been far more interested in scoring political points and signing meaningless executive orders than providing real solutions to help the hard-working families of Wisconsin. If Tony Evers hopes to have any credibility with Wisconsin voters he needs to begin answering these basic questions.”
