Senate Dems elect Bewley minority leader, Ringhand assistant

Meeting by videoconference, Senate Dems today unanimously elevated Janet Bewley, of Mason, to minority leader. Bewley, who had been the assistant minority leader since 2017, replaces Sen. Jennifer Shilling. The La Crosse Dem stepped down as minority leader today because she isn’t seeking reelection this fall. Sen. Janis Ringhand, D-Evansville, was unanimously elected to replace Bewley as the assistant. Meanwhile, Sen. Mark Miller, D-Monona, remains caucus chair.

Poll shows Wisconsin voters trust Evers more than Trump in dealing with COVID-19 pandemic

A plurality of voters in a new poll say they believe Gov. Tony Evers is properly balancing reopening the economy and protecting Wisconsinites from the coronavirus. The poll from the Dem firm Public Policy Polling found 49 percent of registered voters agreed that Evers was properly balancing the two, while 39 percent didn’t. Overall, 53 percent approve of the job Evers is doing managing the COVID-19 pandemic, while 37 percent didn’t. Gov. Evers: Suspends Department of Revenue Administrative Rules in order to make certain commerce safer and maintain social distancing

Today Governor Tony Evers signed Emergency Order #33 ordering the suspension of Administrative Rules overseen by the Department of Revenue.  The rules were suspended to allow for social distancing during business transactions.   On March 24, 2020, Department of Health Services Secretary-designee Andrea Palm ordered that all essential businesses and operations shall meet social distancing requirements between all individuals on their premises to the best extent possible.   Administrative Rules Wis. Admin. Section TAX 7.01(5)(f), 8.21(2)(g), and 9.47(1)(e) which require signatures for the receipt of fermented malt beverages, intoxicating liquor, and cigarettes, respectively, were suspended for the duration of the health emergency.
