Rep. Allen: Statement on the death of George Floyd

The death of George Floyd was outrageous. Kneeling on a person’s neck while handcuffed is wrong. Officers are trained in the dangers of mechanical compression and restricting airways. Once suspects are handcuffed and under control, they are supposed to be placed in a recovery position. Officer Chauvin’s actions demonstrated nothing short of a depraved mind. As a society we have failed to empower leaders to stand up to racism and hate. Officer Chauvin should have been stopped by the other officers on the scene. Justice should be served, and the people who abused their power, the kneeler and the other police

Rep. Van Wanggaard: Statement on Gov. Evers’ call for action on AB 1012

“The police actions taken against George Floyd are terrifying. People are rightly upset that a police officer violated both the law and his oath of office in taking Mr. Floyd’s life. “Both racism, and riots and looting in opposition to racism, are evil. Peaceful protests, and bringing attention to racism is important, and one of America’s founding principles. We all should remember that for every rioter there are hundreds of peaceful protestors. Just as we should all remember that for every racist action by a police officer, there are hundreds of police officers standing with the protestors. “Assembly Bill 1012
