U.S. Sen. Baldwin: House of Representatives passes Sen. Baldwin’s bipartisan reform to create three-digit suicide prevention hotline

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin’s bipartisan reform to designate a three-digit phone number for a national suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline has passed the U.S. House of Representatives. This legislation will help ensure states have the flexibility to strengthen local crisis call centers and save lives. “In America, we lose about 45,000 people every year to suicide, including more than 6,100 veterans, making it one of the leading causes of death in this country,” said Senator Baldwin. “We need to do everything we can to prevent suicide and that means improving the tools we have to help people who are

Rep. Born: Releases statement on Evers’ use of inaccurate information

Beaver Dam… Governor Evers issued Executive Order #90, relating to declaring a Public Health Emergency. Included in his order was inaccurate information about cities with the fastest increase of COVID-19 cases in the United States- citing Beaver Dam, Wisconsin as one of the top twenty cities. Rep. Born released the following statement after publication of the order: “Here is yet another example of how out of touch Governor Evers is with the state of Wisconsin. By choosing to cite inaccurate information from an out-of-state, liberal media source over resources we have right here at the state and local level, he is

Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty: Gov. Evers violates state law again with third COVID emergency declaration

The News: Governor Tony Evers’s announcement Tuesday that he has declared another statewide emergency declaration to respond to COVID-19, his third declaration this year in response to the same pandemic, is a clear violation of state law. Wisconsin law forbids a governor from unilaterally extending a public health emergency beyond 60 days or skirting the law by declaring multiple 60-day emergencies for the same crisis. WILL is currently suing Governor Evers in Polk County Circuit Court over the July 30, emergency declaration. The Quote: WILL President and General Counsel Rick Esenberg said, “Governor Evers and his team believe the presence of COVID-19 supersedes the

WisDems: Jim Ott takes 150-day taxpayer funded vacation

MADISON – It’s been over 150 days since Representative Jim Ott (R-Mequon) and his Republican colleagues adjourned the legislative session. As students, families and communities continue to grapple with the ripple effects of the pandemic, pleas for action have been ignored by Wisconsin Republicans including Ott. “I can’t think of anything more out of touch than refusing to do your job as an elected official while Wisconsin families are hurting,” said DPW spokeswoman Kate Constalie. “There is serious work that needs to get done. Over 1,000 Wisconsinites have died, COVID cases are rising, and people are still struggling to navigate

Rep. Vos: Statement: Illegal extension by Governor Evers

Contact: Speaker Robin Vos (608) 266-3387 Madison…Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) released the following statement. “Wisconsin’s lawless governor continues to rule by fiat and it must end. This latest order is obviously illegal. Wisconsin Statutes clearly state the powers given to the executive branch during a public health emergency are limited. There is already a court challenge and undoubtedly, there will be more. No one branch of government can rule outside the letter of the law and go unchecked, even during a pandemic.

MADISON – Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) Secretary Joel Brennan today announced that state agencies will return more than $300 million to the state’s general fund in the current budget year (FY20-21). The savings will be generated based on specific targets that have been communicated to each agency. The reductions follow Gov. Tony Evers’ July request that the DOA work with state agencies to identify $250 million in cost savings, known as lapses, for the current fiscal year (FY20-21), which ends June 30, 2021. This action also follows the nearly $70 million in cost savings that were identified and implemented across

WisOpinion poll: Should the U.S. Senate vote on Trump’s Supreme Court nominee before the election?

President Donald Trump has indicated he will soon announce his U.S. Supreme Court nominee following the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Four years ago, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Oshkosh, called Supreme Court nominations in an election year “problematic.” But he told WisPolitics.com in a phone interview he favors filling the vacancy even in a scenario where the vote was during a lame-duck session after President Trump lost reelection and Dems had taken control of the Senate. Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, who pushed for a vote on Merrick Garland’s nomination to the court in 2016, President Obama’s last
