Franklin, WI. – Forward Latino is closely monitoring the investigation and has been communicating with the Milwaukee Police Department and the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office regarding this off-duty officer involved incident. At this time, the alleged assailant has been arrested and the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office is investigating the incident with the involvement of the Wisconsin Department of Justice.

Forward Latino National President, Darryl Morin, issued the following statement:

“Over the last 24 hours we have received numerous calls and request from our membership and concerned community members in Milwaukee regarding the off-duty officer involved incident that occurred yesterday on the 4500 block of W. Cleveland Avenue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Since receiving the first requests, we have been in regular communication with both the Milwaukee Police Department and the District Attorney’s office regarding this incident.

Tragically this represents yet another act of violence in our city. Equally concerning is that the individual charged in the incident is an off-duty Milwaukee Police Department officer.

It is in times such as these that we are tested as a city. To effectively address the issue of crime and violence our police must trust members of the community and members of the community must trust our police. Incidents such as these can damage that trust on both sides. That is why it is critical that the investigation be thorough and transparent.

Forward Latino would like to commend Chief Morales for his immediate decision to request an independent investigation by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office and the involvement of the Wisconsin Department of Justice. We further would like to acknowledge the department’s prompt arrest of the off-duty officer.

Forward Latino will continue to monitor the investigation closely and will remain in regular communication moving forward with the Milwaukee Police Department and the District Attorney’s office.

At this time, we would also like to extend our prayers for the victim and his family during this difficult time.”
