Today, Wisconsin leaders applauded Joe Biden’s newly released Latino agenda — a plan that will ensure everyone, no matter their race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or zip code, is treated with dignity and has a chance to join the middle class.
Joe Biden believes that the story of America is one of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. The Latino community is a core part of the American community and their contributions are evident in every part of society. Our nation’s ability to draw and welcome hard-working, aspirational people from every culture, from every nation is an indisputable strength. Our diversity is the source of America’s constant renewal – the reason we’ve been able to remake ourselves over and over.
Biden will be ready beginning on Day 1 to implement changes needed for the Latino community to thrive. Biden will:
- Investing in Latinos’ economic mobility;
- Making far-reaching investments in ending health disparities by race;
- Expanding access to high-quality education and tackling racial inequity in our education system;
- Combating hate crimes and gun violence; and
- Securing our values as a nation of immigrants.
“Latinos in Milwaukee and Wisconsin are suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic — and Donald Trump doesn’t seem to care,” said State Representative and Milwaukee Alder JoCasta Zamarripa, a member of Biden for President’s Latino Leadership Committee. “Since the day Trump announced his campaign, he’s fanned the flames of hate and bigotry against our community — and this November, we have a chance to stop him. Joe Biden’s Latino agenda takes a comprehensive approach to helping our community recover. He’ll not only restore our values as a country, but also invest in our economic mobility, education, health care, and safety. This is the ambitious, forward-thinking leadership Latinos need in the White House.”
“As president, Donald Trump has done everything in his power to make Latinos feel unwelcome in our own country and communities,” said Small Business Owner Florentino Barrera of DeForest. “He’s attacked our health care, targeted DREAMers, and gave massive tax cuts to billionaires instead of the working class. Joe Biden knows that when Latinos succeed, America succeeds. That’s why Biden will invest in Latino workers and our economic mobility — making sure folks can have a job that can support a family and the American Dream.”
“Latinos have watched in horror as Donald Trump has torn our country apart and divided Americans along racial lines to advance his own destructive agenda,” said Wisconsin Mujer Founder and CEO Araceli Esparza of Madison. “Joe Biden knows that we can and must do better. That’s why he’s committed to protecting our DACA recipients and ending the extreme, un-American immigration policies implemented by the Trump Administration. He will also work with Congress to provide a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants here already — and restore the values that makes America the greatest, welcoming country in the world.”
