Milwaukee, WI – As part of the Governor’s deployment of the Wisconsin National Guard to assist with the in-person voting on Election Day, and in conjunction with the Wisconsin Election Commission, Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson will be coordinating deployment of National Guard Service Members to assist with in-person voting at polling sites throughout Milwaukee County on Election Day starting tomorrow, April 6th.
“My sincere gratitude goes out to all National Guard Service Members who will be working alongside our dedicated election officials. Together, they are ensuring that the most sacred part of our democracy – the right to vote – is carried out as safely as possible during this pandemic,” said Christenson.
A total of 264 Service Members will report tomorrow to assist Milwaukee County’s municipal clerks in conducting in-person voting as safely and efficiently as possible. They will be reporting in civilian clothes and will have completed online baseline training as chief election inspectors, COVID 19 training, and registration official training. Service Members will serve as poll workers, assist with curbside voting, greet voters, perform sanitation duties, and help with set up and tear down of polling stations. They will consist of younger individuals that are not in any at-risk categories.

“It’s important for people to know that these are nearly all part-time soldiers who work or attend school in our communities. They’re our local residents, our neighbors, our friends, our children, our grand-children,” said Christenson. “It is imperative that we keep the public informed as the situation involving this election is changing daily and therefore citizens of Milwaukee County can rest assured that I will provide important updates as soon as they develop,” Christenson concluded.
