WAUWATOSA – The following is a statement from Shawn Rolland, a Milwaukee County Board Supervisor representing District 6 including neighborhoods in Wauwatosa, West Allis and Milwaukee’s westside, and also a Wauwatosa School Board member:

“It’s time for Wauwatosa to say ‘Yes to justice, yes to peace.’ In Wauwatosa, helicopters are circling above us, the National Guard is deployed on our streets, a curfew is preventing us from walking outside in our own yards, businesses are boarded up, there’s broken glass on our streets, families are marching and mourning the loss of their loved ones, police officers are at risk, and none of us know what tomorrow will bring. If there was ever a time for community leaders to act with urgency – this is the time. Our community needs the City of Wauwatosa’s Police and Fire Commission to meet next week. The commission must begin discussing Officer Joseph Mensah’s conduct detailed in the report compiled by the independent investigator it hired, former U.S. Attorney Steven Biskupic. I’m respectfully urging this citizen commission – a group of our neighbors – to begin deliberations now. If this commission can accelerate its deliberative work, our people, businesses and neighborhoods can begin to heal faster.”
