STURGEON BAY, Wis. – Joel Kitchens has announced that he is seeking a fourth term in the Wisconsin State Assembly.

“Since 2015, I have had the incredible honor of representing the citizens of the 1st Assembly District,” Kitchens said. “We’ve accomplished many great things during that time, but I know my work is not done. I am hoping that voters will continue to put their trust in me so I can keep advocating for our shared priorities in Madison and make our area a better place to live for everyone.”

Over the past six years, Kitchens has fought hard to protect Wisconsin’s water and preserve the state’s natural resources. In the 2019-20 legislative session, Kitchens formed a Nitrate Work Group and served as chairman of the Assembly Environment Committee and as a member of the Speaker’s Task Force on Water Quality.

“We live in the most beautiful region of the state, but it is also the most environmentally vulnerable,” Kitchens said. “We have a responsibility to preserve that beauty for future generations. Our health and continued economic success as a community is dependent on how seriously we take that responsibility.”

As a father of three and a former school board president for 14 years, Kitchens has also always been dedicated to assuring that Wisconsin’s students have the tools they need to succeed.

As vice-chairman of the Assembly Education Committee and co-chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee on School Funding, Kitchens has been a strong advocate for improving educational opportunities while protecting taxpayers. “I will continue to work toward a more fair and transparent funding formula for our schools, one that doesn’t require them to be constantly going back to the taxpayers to ask for more money,” Kitchens said.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kitchens knows that it will take a tremendous effort to fix the state’s finances and balance next year’s budget. Kitchens is up to the challenge and will use his experience in working on past budgets to ensure the state and its residents can recover and thrive. “The answer to our budget problems will be to get our economy back to where it was, not to raise taxes,” he said.
