MILWAUKEE – County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson congratulated Chantell Jewell on her confirmation to lead the Milwaukee County House of Correction in a statement released Thursday.

“I was proud to cast my vote to confirm Chantell Jewel’s appointment as the next Superintendent of the House of Correction today and congratulate her on becoming the first Black woman to serve in this role.

“Superintendent Jewell brings 25 years of relevant and progressive experience to this role, from counseling to corrections to connecting incarcerated individuals to jobs and other efforts to decrease recidivism. She is supremely qualified to lead the House of Correction.

“Superintendent Jewell is incredibly accomplished in the field of criminal justice, and her most recent experience in developing and leading re-entry programming, system change, division-level administration, and implementing racial equity initiatives aligns strongly with the goals of Milwaukee County.

“We are fortunate to have a leader like Superintendent Jewell who is intimately familiar with our strategic plan, committed to improving the lives of justice system involved individuals, and dedicated to public service,” said Chairwoman Nicholson.

The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Superintendent Jewell’s appointment Thursday. She has been serving in the role since November 16.
