MADISON, WI –Today, voters elected a Republican candidate for Wisconsin’s seventh congressional district, a seat which Trump took by over 20 points in November.

“Due to the hard work of young activists, we took crucial steps to win back Wisconsin in November by organizing in a district that is sometimes overlooked by presidential campaigns,” said NextGen Wisconsin State Director Christina Carvalho, “Regardless of the outcome, the fact that young Wisconsinites had to choose between their health and casting a ballot once again is unacceptable. We need statewide vote-by-mail to ensure future elections are both safe and accessible.”

Between the general election in 2016 and tonight’s loss, Republicans have lost an approximate five-point lead in the district. The shrinking support suggests that President Donald Trump will face strong Democratic opposition in Wisconsin come November.

NextGen Wisconsin will continue the registration and education of young voters in efforts to turn Wisconsin blue and win back the presidency.
