Brookfield, WI –  Congresswoman Gwen Moore and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett have endorsed fellow Democrat Tom Palzewicz in the race for in Wisconsin’s Fifth Congressional District.

Moore has represented Wisconsin’s Fourth Congressional District since 2005.  In 2016, she was elected to serve as Caucus Whip of the Congressional Black Caucus for the 115th United States Congress.  The 4th District is based in Milwaukee, but spreads to suburbs Glendale, Whitefish Bay, Bayside, Brown Deer, Fox Point, West Milwaukee, Cudahy and South Milwaukee.   Moore is the first African-American woman elected to congress from Wisconsin, and only the second woman, along with Senator Tammy Baldwin, ever to go to Washington.

Barrett has been Milwaukee’s mayor since 2004, enjoying over 70% of the vote in his five terms.  Prior to that he served 10 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the Fifth District, as it was before the redrawing of the maps. He first held public office in 1984 when he was elected to the Wisconsin Assembly.

“This is an exciting development for our campaign,” said Palzewicz.  “The Fifth District includes portions of the City of Milwaukee, and borders the Fourth District.  We are connected with a common goal and the opportunity to work as a team to advance those causes will surely enhance our ability to bring effective leadership and service for the people.

“It is an honor to have the confidence of Gwen Moore, who has been an icon for Milwaukee and the State of Wisconsin, standing up for the underprivileged and disenfranchised.   Likewise, Tom Barrett has a strong history of public service, from the Wisconsin Assembly, to Washington and he is one of the most effective big city mayors in the country.  I welcome the opportunity to stand with them.”

Palzewicz is preparing to “hit the ground running” in Washington, taking on the problems like Covid-19, the economy and the racial injustice.  He shares the same values as Moore and Barrett.

“Being a part of the majority in Washington, having the opportunity to work with Gwen Moore on so many fronts, will help us advance legislation that will more our country forward,” said Palzewicz. “I look forward to delivering benefit for our two districts and the City of Milwaukee.  Mayor Barrett and I share a vision for light rail and I look forward to seeing what is possible there.”
