Madison–State Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette) released the following statement:
“Yesterday, the Assembly Committee on Housing and Real Estate unanimously voted to approve
a bill aimed at making Wisconsin a better place to work, live, and raise a family,” said Rep.
Nygren. “Expanding access to affordable workforce housing in all parts of the state is one of the
best ways to do that.”
The lack of adequate housing for workers is a contributing factor in employers not being able to
attract employees to their growing businesses. A recent report from the Wisconsin Realtors
Association outlines the need for workforce housing and recommends financial incentives as a
way to reduce workforce housing costs. Employers in rural areas have an even harder time
recruiting employees due to the lack of adequate housing.
“This idea came directly from constituents and illustrates the importance of input from the
public. Through numerous discussions with stakeholders and local constituents, we were able to
craft a bill that was approved with bipartisan support,” said Rep. Nygren.
“I would like to thank my colleagues and WHEDA for their support of this important issue and
look forward to continuing to move this bill through the legislative process.”
