Madison, WI—Representative Rob Brooks (R-Saukville) urges Governor Tony Evers to utilize a portion of the federal CARES Act discretionary funds to provide financial assistance to Wisconsinites who are awaiting the Department of Workforce Development’s approval and payment of their unemployment benefits.

“I have heard from many constituents who have been waiting to receive UI benefits because they were furloughed or lost their jobs due to the pandemic. Some of them applied for unemployment months ago and have yet to receive any benefits,” said Representative Brooks.

Earlier this week, members of the Assembly Republican caucus, called upon the governor to use CARES Act funds to provide financial assistance to Wisconsinites whose unemployment claims are being adjudicated. The program would be temporary and will assist individuals as they wait for Governor Evers’ administration to process their unemployment claims.

“Currently, there are almost 150,000 individuals who are still waiting to receive UI benefits. This program is a good first step in ensuring claimants are awarded payment. It is both frustrating and heartbreaking when I hear from constituents who have been waiting months for UI benefits to arrive. My office has been contacting the Department of Workforce Development on my constituents’ behalf to help them receive some relief. I will continue to advocate on their behalf, until each eligible claimant receives benefits. I encourage my constituents to fill out the UI form on my website, email my office at Rep.Rob.Brooks@legis.wisconsin.gov, or call (608) 267-2369, if still awaiting UI benefits,” stated Representative Brooks.
