MADISON – This week, Rep. Emerson (D-Eau Claire) joined her Democratic colleagues in calling on Speaker Vos and Majority Leader Fitzgerald to immediately convene the legislature and provide relief for Wisconsin families and businesses during the COVID-19 crisis.  The priorities Rep. Emerson and colleagues laid out in their letter to Republican leadership align with the robust legislative package Governor Evers has proposed. These priorities include provisions on health care, unemployment insurance, housing, education, elections, and more.

Rep. Emerson released the following statement on the urgent need for the legislature to convene:

“Families and businesses across Wisconsin can’t wait another day for the Legislature to act.  COVID-19 is already having devastating impacts on communities across the state.  I applaud the efforts Governor Evers and his administration have already taken to see us through this unprecedented public health and economic crisis, but the Legislature must play its role as well.  Governor Evers and legislative Democrats have released proposals that would make an immediate difference for Wisconsinites affected by COVID-19.  Republican leaders should set partisanship aside, stop dragging their feet, and take up these proposals now.”
