(Sun Prairie) – August 18, 2020 marks 100 years since the 19th Amendment was ratified and finally allowed women the right to vote. Rep. Gary Hebl released the following statement:

One hundred years ago, women were finally given the right to participate in American democracy. Though sadly it was 144 years later than it should have been, it was a tremendous step forward. The United States of America was founded on the ideals of equality and democracy, and nobody should be denied the right to express themselves at the ballot box. We have been moving forever forward, progressing towards a society in which all votes are equal and everyone in our country is able to participate. There is still work to be done. We must continue to fight to ensure that throughout the country we can ensure the ideal of “one person, one vote.”
