MADISON – Today, the Wisconsin Supreme Court issued a 4-3 ruling on Wisconsin Legislature v. Palm, et al. The conservative majority of the court ruled in favor of Legislative Republicans in their effort to prematurely open Wisconsin’s economy against the best determinations of public health officials.

“I trust the Department of Health Services to make the best decisions for the health and safety of all Wisconsin residents. The people of Wisconsin elected Governor Evers to make decisions in times of crisis and the relentless Republican undermining of his authority is now putting our health at risk once again,” said Representative Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton).

The Supreme Court ruling effectively removes Governor Evers’ Safer at Home order used to encourage public health and mitigate the coronavirus from spreading. This comes as the administration was beginning to turn the dial on restrictions in the state.

“Public health and safety should not be partisan and I fear that with this ruling the Republicans have made this pandemic about politics. I sincerely hope that the Republican leadership can justify their actions because when there continues to be outbreaks of coronavirus across the state we cannot afford second chances to mitigate the spread of this disease,” warned Representative Hesselbein.
