Washington, DC —Today, Rep. Ron Kind announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce allocated over $4.6 million to support revitalization and address the needs of small business owners and entrepreneurs affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District. These investment awards were funded through the CARES Act, which provided $1.5 billion for economic development assistance programs to help communities prepare for and respond to the pandemic. Rep. Kind voted for this legislation, which passed the House of Representatives on May 15, 2020.
“Our small businesses create 2 out of every 3 new jobs, contributing enormously to our communities and state economy. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, our small business owners are struggling to stay afloat,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “This funding is welcome news and will ensure that entrepreneurs across Wisconsin’s Third District receive the relief they need. There’s more work to be done and I will continue to fight for our small business owners and local economies throughout this crisis.”
Investment awards were allocated to the City of Eau Claire; Chippewa, Dunn and Juneau Counties through Impact Seven, Inc.; Buffalo, Crawford, Jackson, La Crosse, Monroe, Pepin, Pierce, Trempealeau, and Vernon Counties through the Mississippi River Regional Planning Commission; Grant and Richland Counties through the Southwestern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission; and Chippewa, Dunn, and Eau Claire Counties through the West Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission.
