MADISON – Today, Governor Evers announced a statewide mask mandate aimed
at slowing the spread of COVID-19 following a recent rise in cases and
hospitalizations statewide. Representative Debra Kolste (D-44) released the
following statement:

“This is the right call by Governor Evers and I applaud his decision to implement a
statewide mask mandate. COVID-19 has impacted every corner of Wisconsin and
every aspect of our lives. The governor’s announcement today is a proactive step
that will keep people safe and keep our economy open,” Rep. Kolste stated.

“Individual actions like wearing a mask, thorough hand-washing, and practicing
social distancing can dramatically decrease the spread of COVID-19. The vast
majority of Americans support mask mandates because it’s a way they can play a
part in helping stop this pandemic. If we want to save our economy and maintain the
hope of in-person school this fall, everyone should comply with this order.”

Wisconsin joins 31 other states and the District of Columbia in implementing a
mask mandate. According to a recent analysis, if 95% of people wear cloth masks
when they’re interacting with other people, it reduces transmission by at least 30%.
