Green Bay… Rep. John Macco (R-Ledgeview) issued the following statement in response to violent protests that took place in Madison on Tuesday, June 23, 2020:
“When rioters assault observers, destroy property, and topple symbols of freedom and equality, it becomes difficult to discern any message beyond the senseless violence and destruction. Clearly, last night did nothing to further any movement or cause. It was simply another example what happens when you fail to proactively protect our state and its citizens.
“In the United States, we have a constitutionally protected right to peacefully assemble and petition our Government, but what happened on Tuesday was far from peaceful. The failure of this administration to actively protect protesters, establishments, state property, and observers is what made it possible for Tuesday’s protest to turn violent.
“I am calling on Governor Evers, Mayor Rhodes-Conway, and Dane County Executive Parisi to do everything in their power to keep Madison citizens safe and to protect the Capitol Building and other state properties. Authorities should be allowed to do their jobs and Wisconsinites should be able to walk the streets without fear of being attacked.
“The only message that should be coming out of the Governor’s office right now, is that continued violence and destruction will not be tolerated.”
