BELOIT – State Representative Mark Spreitzer announced on Labor Day that the Southern Wisconsin Building Trades Union Council has endorsed his re-election. Spreitzer is running for re-election to continue representing the 45th District in the Wisconsin State Assembly.
“Representative Mark Spreitzer has been a tireless advocate for working men and women,” said Bob Potter, President of the Southern Wisconsin Building Trades Union Council. “He knows that when local jobs go to well-trained local workers and when people earn a fair wage and good benefits for a day’s work, our entire community is stronger for it. He has always been a proponent of fair wages and proper training to create economic opportunity for the people of southern Wisconsin. We are proud to endorse him for re-election.”
“It is an honor to have the support of the hard working women and men who help build our communities,” said Representative Spreitzer. “I have stood up against attacks on working people and fought for policies that ensure access to good training and apprenticeship opportunities. I have advocated to keep our tax dollars for public building projects here in our communities, where we know we already have the best-trained workers to get the job done right and safely.”
“On Labor Day, it is important to remember that unions gave us the 40 hour work week, workplace safety laws, and a strong middle class,” Spreitzer added. “I am proud to stand with the working people of the 45th District and to earn their support for re-election.”
Representative Spreitzer is proud to have received many other endorsements from working people and retirees in the 45th District, including the Wisconsin AFL-CIO, Service Employees International Union, United Auto Workers, Wisconsin Education Association Council, and the SMART (Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers) Transportation Division.
Representative Spreitzer was first elected to the Assembly in 2014 and as Assembly Democratic Caucus Chair in 2016. In addition to serving in the State Assembly, Representative Spreitzer served as President of the Beloit City Council from April 2014-2015. Rep. Spreitzer is an active member of the community, participating in a variety of organizations, including serving as board president of the Welty Environmental Center and a member of the Deacons Outreach Board at United Church of Beloit.
