Rep. McGuire Statement on Kenosha Shooting Unrest

MADISON – Rep. Tip McGuire issued the following statement on unrest that occurred last night in Kenosha in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Blake:

“Words cannot fully express the sadness I feel this morning. Our beloved community is hurting.

“I am encouraged by reports that Jacob Blake is recovering, and I want to echo the calls from his family for peace and peaceful protest. Violence will not heal what is broken. My thoughts are with all who were injured yesterday, especially the police officer who was injured with a brick, as well as the small businesses who suffered damages.

“This morning, Rep. Tod Ohnstad and I surveyed the damage downtown Kenosha, and we will be participating in the clean-up efforts today. If you feel that you can help while remaining healthy, I encourage you to join us as well.

“Our community and our state has a long, difficult road ahead of us, but we will only succeed by coming together. Our work begins today.”
