Madison–State Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette), Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Finance released the following statement following the extension of Governor Evers’ stay at home order:

“It is time that the Governor begins to understand that everything he says matters”, said Rep. Nygren.

“Business owners, healthcare professionals, those who have been laid off, individuals waiting for critical health treatment, and considerably more deserve more than vague timelines and platitudes. I call on the Governor to provide the data and metrics he used to come to this decision.”

“Wisconsin citizens need a thorough, efficient, and transparent approach to begin reopening our state’s economy and the ability to support their families. The current shoot from the hip approach does nothing more than incite fear and confusion in our citizens who continue to do an exceptional job of heeding to social distancing standards.”

“As the state makes its way through the next stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, I am asking that Governor Evers immediately lay out a set of metrics that he will be looking at to reopen our state economy. The people of Wisconsin not only deserve to know what those metrics are but what the data must indicate to achieve them. Other states, like New York and California that have been impacted dramatically worse than Wisconsin have already started this process.”

“Finally, I implore Governor Evers to take a regional approach to this order. For many locations in Wisconsin, primarily northern Wisconsin, the data does not support a continued lockdown. I fear that businesses and livelihoods are being unnecessarily upended in a way that will be impossible to come back from.”

“Governor Evers, Wisconsin citizens are looking for a lighthouse in the fog,” said Rep. Nygren. “In times of crisis, we look to our leaders for decisiveness and transparent communication. Now is the time to provide it.”
