MADISON – This evening Governor Tony Evers delivered his second State of the State Address at the State Capitol.  Representative Tod Ohnstad (D-Kenosha) released the following statement in response:

“If the question is if the state is doing better under the thoughtful leadership of Governor Evers, the answer is absolutely.  Tonight Governor Evers highlighted many of the accomplishments that came as a result of his work over the past year.  He delivered on tax cuts for middle-class families while investing more in our children’s classrooms and in our roads and infrastructure.

However, he also made it clear that the job is not done and committed to continuing to work as hard as he can for Wisconsin.  Despite the willingness of Governor Evers to reach across the aisle, critical concerns have not been addressed by the GOP-led legislature.  Far too often the gerrymandered Republican majority has opposed and obstructed progress on issues that have been consistently and broadly supported by the people of this state.

Citizens want us to accept federal healthcare funds, protect homeowners from the dark store property tax loophole, cap insulin medication costs, establish reasonable marijuana policies, provide a fair redistricting process, keep our drinking water safe, and address student loan debt.  We can do all these things if we work together, and Governor Evers made it clear he is dedicated to doing all he can to tackle the problems of the people of Wisconsin.”
