MADISON- State Representative Timothy Ramthun (R-Campbellsport) issued the following statement regarding last night’s violence in Madison:
“Words cannot describe my anger, outrage, and condemnation of last night’s violent actions in Madison.”
“A fellow state legislator, Sen. Tim Carpenter, was violently assaulted by rioters. He was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries. My prayers are with Sen. Carpenter and his family for a swift and full recovery. Violence against any innocent bystander is never justifiable.”
“Two statues on Capitol property were also torn down. One of them is of Col. Hans Christian Heg, a Norwegian immigrant to Wisconsin and staunch abolitionist, who died in the Civil War while serving the Union as a colonel. Is this how we honor his sacrifice?”
“This is no longer about justice. It’s about destruction and causing mayhem. I’ve already reached out to Capitol Police to inquire about their inaction last night and reached out to Gov. Evers’ office to demand he put an end to the violence.”
“If I were governor, I know what I would do.”
