MADISON– Melissa Sargent (D-Madison) released the following statement announcing an endorsement for her candidacy for Wisconsin’s 16th Senate District:
“Today, it is my distinct honor to announce an endorsement for my campaign for State Senate by community leader and activist Carmen Porco. Carmen has shown incredible dedication to addressing housing needs here in Wisconsin, and to serving low-income communities,” said Sargent.
Reverend Doctor Carmen Porco and his business, Porco Consulting, focuses on providing organizations and individuals access to the resources, information, and ideas necessary for growth and development, and for the establishment of strong communities. In addition, Mr. Porco has constructed the critical Wisconsin Anti-Poverty Model that has been implemented in 805 units of Section 8 housing in Milwaukee and Madison. Mr. Porco’s work is more than just affordable housing— he provides community learning centers, education programs, and tenant jobs running the apartment complex. His Anti-Poverty Model has been influential nationally used by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
“It has been a privilege to get to know Melissa over the years, and to work closely with her in the fight for affordable housing and equity in Dane County. Throughout her time on the County Board and in the State Legislature, Melissa has been a champion for innovative solutions that lift up those in our community who need it most. It is an honor to support her as she seeks to become the next Senator for the 16th District,” said Porco.
“I am proud to be endorsed by Carmen, an individual who has significantly improved the lives of many here in Dane County through his work, and has dedicated himself to improving the economic well-being of Wisconsin as a whole. His commitment to Wisconsin communities has been nothing less than life-changing, and he is an inspiration to me and so many others in our state. Carmen’s compassion for others is outstanding, and I am truly grateful for his support,” said Sargent.
