MADISON– Melissa Sargent (D-Madison) released the following statement announcing an endorsement from Charlie Wetzel for her candidacy for Wisconsin’s 16th Senate District:

“Today I am so happy to share an endorsement from Charlie Wetzel,” said Sargent. “Charlie has been a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and an invaluable artist for the Madison area.”

Charlie Wetzel is a photographer and artist based in Madison. In addition to their commercial work, Wetzel is an active advocate and artist involved in politics, having photographed and worked with many Wisconsin political officials. Wetzel is also an impassioned leader for LGBTQ+ rights, visibility, and justice.

“I am supporting Melissa because she has taken bold, meaningful steps in the fight for trans equality, in addition to her history of fighting tirelessly for the LGBTQ+ community as a whole,” said Wetzel. “Not only has she demonstrated this on the Dane County Board and in the Assembly, but I know Melissa’s commitment to continuing this fight in the Senate.”

“I am incredibly grateful to be receiving Charlie’s support,” said Sargent. “Advocates and artists are such an essential core to Madison’s progressive community, and I am truly thankful for their work and supporting me in this endeavor.”
