MADISON– Melissa Sargent (D-Madison) released the following statement announcing an endorsement from the Senior Policy Advisor of the UW System, Salvador Luis Carranza, for her candidacy for Wisconsin’s 16th Senate District:

“I am honored to announce an endorsement from Salvador Luis Carranza today,” said Sargent. “Sal has always been committed to equality and justice in education, and I greatly respect his accomplishments for our state’s education system and our Latinx community.”

Salvador Luis Carranza is Senior Policy Advisor of the UW System. Prior to this, he worked as the Senior Academic Planner for the UW System. Carranza additionally has served as the president of the Latino Education Council, a group of educators and community members striving to support the academic success of the Latino community.

“There is a quote that I love; it states that real leaders always do the right thing. I have known and supported Melissa Sargent for many years and I know she is a true leader that has always done what is right for our families and our communities. She has been a tireless fighter for the rights of our most disadvantaged community members and our Latinx and immigrant families. This is why I support Melissa Sargent to represent me in the State Senate, ” said Carranza.

“I’m very grateful to be receiving support from Sal,” said Sargent. “He has been an incredible leader in our state’s education and a critical voice in lifting up the Latinx community. Sal is the epitome of what it means to be a supportive advocate, and I sincerely thank him for his endorsement as I fight to advocate for all communities and families in Wisconsin’s State Senate.”
