MADISON– Melissa Sargent (D-Madison) released the following statement announcing an endorsement from City of Madison Common Council President Shiva Bidar for her candidacy for Wisconsin’s 16th Senate District:

“I am very proud to announce an endorsement from Shiva Bidar today,” said Sargent. “Shiva’s efforts for representation and health equity is something that I greatly value and respect. She’s made an insurmountable difference in the Dane County area.”

Shiva Bidar is President of the Madison Common Council, representing District 5. Bidar first assumed office in 2009. Additionally, Bidar has worked as the Chief Diversity Officer and Director of Community Partnerships for UW Health. Bidar served as co-chair of the Latino Health Council of Dane County. In 2016, In Business magazine named Bidar one of Madison’s Most Influential People.

“Melissa Sargent and I share the same goals of equity and inclusion for Dane County. She understands how important it is to work for the well-being of our communities, and she has been a phenomenal leader in this capacity. I look forward to Melissa continuing these outstanding efforts as State Senator, ” said Bidar.
