MADISON– Melissa Sargent (D-Madison) released the following statement announcing the endorsements of Dane County area State Representatives Dianne Conway Hesselbein, Shelia Stubbs, Lisa Subeck, & Chris Taylor, for her candidacy for Wisconsin’s 16th Senate District:

“Today I am proud to announce campaign endorsements from four outstanding women who are dedicated leaders for Dane County, whom I have had the pleasure to work with in the Wisconsin State Assembly,” said Sargent.

Born and raised in Dane County, Assembly Assistant Minority Leader Representative Dianne Conway Hesselbein (D-Middleton) has served the 79th Assembly District since 2013. Previously, she served on the Dane County Board of Supervisors and the Middleton Cross Plains Area School District Board of Education.

“I have always been impressed with Melissa’s ability to get things done. It was an easy decision when I encouraged her to run for Dane County Board in 2010, and today Melissa continues to serve the 48th Assembly District with integrity and passion,” said Conway Hesselbein.

Representative Shelia Stubbs (D-Madison), a former special education teacher, adjunct professor, and probation and parole agent, now serves the 77th Assembly District as the first African-American to represent Dane County in the state Legislature, in addition to serving on the Dane County Board of Supervisors.

“Melissa is a proven leader with extensive experience. She fights for her constituents and I know she will take that same energy to the Senate!,” said Stubbs.

Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison), has served in the Wisconsin State Assembly since 2015, after a successful career in early childhood education, as a technical college instructor and nonprofit executive director, and City Council member.

“Melissa is a fierce colleague who has never shied away from a challenge. She leads with her heart, and always has the best interest of her constituents in mind,” said Subeck. “It’s a pleasure to work with her, and I look forward to seeing all she will accomplish in the State Senate,” Subeck continued.

Representative Chris Taylor (D-Madison), a member of the Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee, has served the 76th Assembly District and her community since 2011. Formerly, she was the public policy director for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and a practicing attorney.

“Melissa is a fighter for her constituents. She is a driven and dedicated public servant who puts people first, and pushes the envelope in championing needed progressive policies. It is my great pleasure to support her,” said Taylor.

“It is my honor to be endorsed by my colleagues and their years of dedicated service and experience in Dane County,” said Sargent. “I am grateful for their continued partnership and support, and look forward to continuing to work together to move Wisconsin forward” Sargent stated.
