MADISON– Today, Senator-elect Melissa Sargent (D-Madison) was elected by her colleagues as Caucus Vice-Chair. Senator-elect Sargent will be sworn in, and assume the duties of this leadership role on January 4, 2021. Sargent released the following statement:
“I am proud to have earned the support and trust of my colleagues in the Senate Democratic Caucus. I look forward to serving in the role of Caucus Vice-Chair with passion and dedication.
“I understand the challenges we face – we all do. However, for the greater good we must work together to stand up for our progressive roots – and to build forward for all of our friends and neighbors across Wisconsin. We must work tirelessly against the powerful forces pleased with the inadequate status quo. We are not powerless. We must stand against those attacking our institutions and values. It won’t be easy, but I am confident we will bring about the needed change.
“The responsibility of the Caucus Vice Chair is to serve the caucus as a whole – work for the whole, to build toward a majority, and to support Democratic policies in the best interest of our state and its citizens. At the heart of this is building trust, strong communication, and hard work. I am up for this challenge and will do everything in my power to help my colleagues and help our state.”
