MADISON – Following the issuance of a new public health emergency and a new statewide mask mandate by Governor Evers, Rep. Mark Spreitzer (D-Beloit) issued the followed statement:

“I was pleased to see that Governor Evers issued a new public health emergency and a new statewide mask mandate, which are effective immediately. These new orders are a result of the recent surge in cases across the state, including among young people and at college campuses.

“Our state and our district continue to face severe and increasing threats from this virus. The science is clear, and we must do everything possible to slow the spread of COVID-19, including wearing masks and practicing physical distancing. Wearing masks allows us to live our lives and support our local businesses while keeping those around us safer.

“I also encourage everyone to get a flu shot this year, to protect yourself from the flu and preserve COVID-19 hospital and testing capacity.

“We must continue to work together to strengthen our response and overcome the COVID-19 virus. I am grateful to Governor Evers for protecting the people of our state, and I encourage Wisconsinites to mask up to slow the spread.”
