MADISON – Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) released the below statement following the violent and destructive protests in Madison last night:
“What we’re seeing in Madison is truly unacceptable, and unfortunately both local and state – leadership is sorely lacking in righting these wrongs. While rioters are destroying public property and attacking a member of the legislature, Governor Evers and Madison Mayor Rhodes-Conway have stood idly by. If this isn’t the time for intervention, when is?
“We have gone well beyond first amendment rights and have firmly entered criminal activity. I am calling on the governor and mayor to do what they were elected to do: lead. With the City of Madison Police, State Capitol Police, State Troopers and the National Guard at your sole disposal, the power lies with you alone to bring an end to this destruction. Now is the time for action.”
