MADISON- Today, Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) announced that Representative Shelia Stubbs (D-Madison) will co-chair the Speakers Taskforce on Racial Disparity.
The mission of this taskforce is as follows: To end racial disparities that exist at every age and in every aspect of a person’s life across the State of WI. We will work to close gaps that are present in far too many aspects of the lives of people of color by turning community voices into actionable legislation
Representative Stubbs is honored to have the opportunity to serve the State of Wisconsin in this capacity. Her remarks are below: “As a legislator, it is my duty to come to the table for my constituents, and my community.
The racial disparities in Wisconsin are among the worst in the nation, and it can no longer be tolerated. This is an opportunity to bring community voices to the table, and move closer to real change.”
“Racism is a public health crisis, plain and simple. Without comprehensive reforms, we will continue to underserve Black communities, at the cost of Black Lives. Movement towards solving this crisis is long overdue. We can no longer remain complicit as systemic racism continues to break our communities. As Co-Chair of this taskforce, I will elevate community voices, so that we can create an inclusive dialogue that leads to action. Our communities deserve positive results, not politics.”
