MADISON – Rep. Stuck issued the following statement following Attorney General Josh Kaul’s announcement today regarding the creation of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Task Force:
“I am glad that the Attorney General is taking this important step, in conjunction with the indigenous communities in our state to begin to study and address this important, systemic issue across the State of Wisconsin and across the Country.”
“I continue to be disappointed that the Legislature did not pass a bipartisan bill to create such a task force when given the opportunity this past Legislative Session. I introduced legislation to create this task force in October 2019, but it never received a vote and did not move forward through the legislative process.”
“The Attorney General and the Wisconsin Department of Justice have taken this issue seriously, recognizing that the longer we wait, the more women, girls, families, and communities will continue to be torn apart by this epidemic of violence against indigenous women and girls.”
“I look forward to continuing to work with the Task Force, with the Attorney General and Department of Justice Staff, with our indigenous communities across the state, and with all other stakeholders on this important issue.”
